Book of Spells, Kate Brian

Book of Spells is the prequel to the Private series, explaining everything that happened to make things the way they are for the modern era girls. I read a book in that series after reading Book of Spells, and honestly, I was appalled. After reading Book of Spells, my like for period setting books has increased so much! I mean really, do all modern setting books have that annoying tendency to forget the main plot of the story and just go into a romance world of making out and almost-sex scenes? It's fine to have a romance on the side, but I think it should tie into the story instead of just overpowering everything. Ms. Brian did a fantastic job of that in Book of Spells, with Eliza and Harrison's romance intwined with the story. How did she do this? Well, (spoilers, sorry) Eliza is a witch and she has to keep this secret from Harrison, therefore adding suspenseful moments in the story where you don't know for sure what kind of decision she will make.

A lot of people find love triangles kind of annoying, and I do too mostly, but in the case of this book, I think it was a wonderful part of the story. Theresa is engaged to Harrison, but Harrison loves Eliza. Theresa and Eliza are enemies but because they are in the coven together and have to work to keep the secret from Harrison and others. This makes the love triangle more important yet not overpowering the plot of the story or anything or the world that the story is set in.

Ms. Brian shows great skill as a writer; Book of Spells was well written, with great use of description and all. But the thing is, she, like some other writers, write less casually for modern times than period. No no no no no! That's not a good idea, people, as I think I have said before, writers can make the dialogue as casual as they think the character who is speaking should talk, but everything else......? No.

I am definitely willing to give the rest of the series a try, but if after I finish I don't like them, then I will edge more towards period setting books. Bye!

Angelfire again

Angelfire..... now that I'm thinking about it I am liking it less and less. I used to think Stephanie Meyer was the worst author in the world, but Courtney Allison Moulton is definitely worse. To me, she's one of those authors that thinks that even though you are writing from the POV of a teenager, you can just be sloppy and casual, but you should only do that in your dialogue. The writing itself should be perfect.... well not necessarily perfect but still sort of formal and descriptive, you know? The book was awful. Well, awful writing. The concept of the story was really gripping, but again, we have the one special person in the world who has the completely awesomely dangerous job who wants to be a normal teen thing I know I mentioned this before but I cannot tell you how much that pisses me! Excuse my language, but seriously guys, get a life. I am thinking that if I wrote a book I would have one person who has that kind of job, but have the main character be that person's best friend/guardian/apprentice/helper person... I hope the next two books in the Angelfire series are more well written. I'm willing to give those two books a chance.

Angelfire, Courtney Allison Moulton

I recently read this book and I absolutely love it. I've noticed that most of the books I read have a lot to do with God and Lucifer and angels, people like that, even though I don't believe in God. Each story has a different plot, and, even if some of the characters are the same, and some of the concepts, and this one really is amazing. Here's a short summary that doesn't give away anything...... almost.

Ellie is a normal girl... or so she thinks. She is actually the Preliator, the only mortal who has the power to destroy reapers. She meets Will, who is her Guardian, and later she falls in love with him. Then she finds out who she really is...... and then the book is over after another short scene,

The ending was pretty cool, but I have no idea how Ms. Moulton will continue in the next book, if she writes one, and I think she will. I hope she will! I mean, is she never going to end the scene, or what? I totally don't understand. I really like this scene, but since Ellie's fought and killed reapers a few times already and Ms. Mouton has described some of these scenes, does she see the need to write this one out? It leaves me with so much suspense.

Ms Moulton doesn't have the best writing skills, but she writes moderately well. She has a lot of creativity, and I am so glad to see a book that finally doesn't have vampires in it. As much as the plots of some books are amazing, if there is no need for vampires don't use them! That's my view.

Normal. I don't see what's so great about normal. All the books where there's like one special person in the world who is the main character have that character want to be normal. Ugh. I hate that. Why can't they just gracefully accept their fate? Ellie, in this book, seems better than the other characters, because she at least tries her hardest to balance each part of her life. I understand that in her case she has to hide as much as she can from her parents, because she can't just abandon them, and she can't arouse her friends' suspicions. Now that I'm actually writing these words, I finally understand this, but still, I am so pissed that there is yet another normal-craving character. If I were Ellie, first I would change my name, then I would abandon my family and run off. Then I would fight reapers. I really want to write a prologue for this novel!!!!!!!!!!

That's about it.....

Hey Everyone!

Hi everyone! I''m MiaNicole, and I love books and writing! To see a more detailed version of About Me, click on, well, the About Me page. To see a list of the first good books off the top of my head, go to the Books page. I will be adding more books, of course. If you followers want me to, I will post links to stories that I have written. Some of them are written just by me, and others I have co-written. Right now, all of these stories are in progress, but keep clicking the links and you will see when I have finished them. Of course, I will make a post whenever I finish a novel! I do not write short stories or scripts, mind you. I don't normally write poems, but they are quick and occasionally I will do so. Okies? Well, then, bye for now! Please don't click on any of the check marks underneath this post, because this post is not about a book! Okies? Kay then bye!
