Angelfire, Courtney Allison Moulton

I recently read this book and I absolutely love it. I've noticed that most of the books I read have a lot to do with God and Lucifer and angels, people like that, even though I don't believe in God. Each story has a different plot, and, even if some of the characters are the same, and some of the concepts, and this one really is amazing. Here's a short summary that doesn't give away anything...... almost.

Ellie is a normal girl... or so she thinks. She is actually the Preliator, the only mortal who has the power to destroy reapers. She meets Will, who is her Guardian, and later she falls in love with him. Then she finds out who she really is...... and then the book is over after another short scene,

The ending was pretty cool, but I have no idea how Ms. Moulton will continue in the next book, if she writes one, and I think she will. I hope she will! I mean, is she never going to end the scene, or what? I totally don't understand. I really like this scene, but since Ellie's fought and killed reapers a few times already and Ms. Mouton has described some of these scenes, does she see the need to write this one out? It leaves me with so much suspense.

Ms Moulton doesn't have the best writing skills, but she writes moderately well. She has a lot of creativity, and I am so glad to see a book that finally doesn't have vampires in it. As much as the plots of some books are amazing, if there is no need for vampires don't use them! That's my view.

Normal. I don't see what's so great about normal. All the books where there's like one special person in the world who is the main character have that character want to be normal. Ugh. I hate that. Why can't they just gracefully accept their fate? Ellie, in this book, seems better than the other characters, because she at least tries her hardest to balance each part of her life. I understand that in her case she has to hide as much as she can from her parents, because she can't just abandon them, and she can't arouse her friends' suspicions. Now that I'm actually writing these words, I finally understand this, but still, I am so pissed that there is yet another normal-craving character. If I were Ellie, first I would change my name, then I would abandon my family and run off. Then I would fight reapers. I really want to write a prologue for this novel!!!!!!!!!!

That's about it.....

I read an ARC of Angelfire so the writing wasn't as cleaned up. I didn't see the finished copy. A lot of writers are going either way now with their interpretation of teens dialogue, like you, I prefer a realistic but cleaned up version.

I think when authors describe their character's as 'normal' they mean regular people without any knowledge of the paranormal.

Imagine if you, not believing in God, were suddenly set upon by Angels telling you that you were the worlds last hope for salvation and then the next thing you know every demon and their brother were out to get you. Wouldn't you want to go back to 'normal', back to not believing in God and feeling safe in your beliefs that those things don't exist? That's what the author(s) protagonists lament, who wouldn't? There has to be some of that lamentation, worry for their sanity, their lives, their loved ones lives, etc... I don't think I could accept it right away but eventually, as every protagonist does to some extent, they do, because they have no choice.

I agree about the vampires! So glad to see so many books coming out that are NOT vamp related! The only ones I've really been reading are The Morganville Vampires and I'll never stop reading that series! The Bite Club came out today and I have it already :o]

I'm your first follower :o] Stop by and see me! Congrats on your blog! Have fun with it!
